Film screening “The Day Iceland Stood Still”
The Representatives for Gender Equality of the German Environment Agency and the City of Dessau-Roßlau invite you to a joint film screening on March 9th at 5:30 p.m. in the lecture hall of the German Environment Agency in Dessau. The film “The Day Iceland Stood Still” will be shown in honor of International Women’s Day.
Women’s rights are under pressure worldwide, and setbacks are occurring. This year, many events are being held to mark International Women’s Day, raising awareness of injustices related to women’s rights and discrimination.
The documentary “The Day Iceland Stood Still” focuses on the Icelandic women’s strike of 1975, in which over 90% of women stood up for their rights. This inspiring story not only serves to raise awareness but also demonstrates how collective action can bring about change. A discussion with the audience will follow the screening, addressing various aspects of equality, visibility, and the strengthening of women’s rights.
The event also connects to current debates, including the call for a global women’s strike on March 9, 2026. The aim is to foster dialogue and provide impetus for a respectful and equal society. Interested individuals are warmly invited to participate and enjoy the evening together.
The film will be shown in its original version with German subtitles.
