FAQ

Strike as the most powerful form of protest, as a stance, as a statement, as a symbol. An unmistakable intervention, a conscious refusal, a break with normality and with the promise of a smooth-running system.
The word signals: STOP! We are not available. You cannot count on us. We take no responsibilities, and we know what a worldwide ENOUGH! BASTA! could mean—even economically.
We are serious.

The women* strike by ENOUGH! is not a strike in the sense of collective bargaining law or labor law.
It is not an industrial dispute, and no collective bargaining rights, advantages, or legal effects are being claimed. Strikes are generally called by trade unions and are legally regulated. This does not apply to the women* strike by ENOUGH!.

The term “strike” is used here as a political and social form of action and protest, as an exercise of the right to freedom of expression and assembly, not as a legal term. Individuals are therefore not protected by strike law and must decide on their own responsibility whether to apply for leave, take vacation days, or pursue other options, such as an extended lunch break.

The general strike is the highest form of strike, and we use it in the same sense as the word “strike” itself, as the strongest symbol. It is a call to ALL women* and supporters to pause paid and unpaid work for one day.

On the day of the strike, there will be main actions during a core time between 12 and 2 pm. This time frame can also be understood as an extended lunch break and is deliberately chosen so that it is accessible for many people.

ENOUGH! gathers different approaches that work in countless public spaces and express the diversity of the STRIKE idea; they vary: 1 minute → 10 minutes → 1 hour → half a day → a full day in a public space, showing your own ENOUGH!

All of this can crystallize into a show of power. Yes, it can happen. We dream that minutes and hours of action move in rhythm with the sun, and that ENOUGH! sparks a global wave of refusal, a signal of unity beyond the economic. STRIKE is collective self-empowerment. The WOMEN’S GENERAL STRIKE* offers subversive space for a wide variety of protests and actions—even for those who would risk prison for a public ENOUGH! کافی! KÂFI! or for those who simply cannot or are not allowed to strike. There is no single, mandatory form of action. In the way we protest, we also want to reflect the greatest possible diversity.

We are aware that not everyone can take part. Some (care) work cannot be postponed or delegated, and other reasons may prevent participation on site. Every form of support is welcome. Even a poster in a window or a guided conversation is part of ENOUGH!. Every individual and every organization can formulate their own ENOUGH! and fill the term STRIKE with their own ideas and interpretations.

Then we recommend the elegant Icelandic solution“. Women who found the term STRIKE difficult to use called for “taking a day off”: I’m taking March 9, 2026 off.

In addition, more and more employers are granting their employees leave for 9 March 2026. Start a conversation and make ENOUGH! a topic in your workplace, your organization, and your team as well.

Because this is about women*. About female and queer people, who experience oppression, violence, and discrimination because of their gender — which, in many parts of the world, becomes a matter of fate. Regardless of whether they identify as feminist or not: a female garment worker isn’t paid less than her male colleague because of her political beliefs, but simply because she is a woman. Childbirth, like abortion, or just walking down the street at night, can be life-threatening — because the danger is defined by others, not by one’s own awareness. Showing oneself without a headscarf can lead to death, no matter what is going on in that person’s mind.

Solidarity should not create barriers — it should dismantle them. And we are looking for the greatest common denominator, so that we don’t splinter our efforts against discrimination, but unite them. With everyone who says: ENOUGH!

You never know if the time is right — you feel it. Because in 1955, a woman named Rosa Parks stayed in her seat on a bus and refused to give it up for a white man, the largest protest against racism in the U.S. to that point began. Because Tarana Burke said “Me Too” in 2006, a movement against sexual violence truly went global. Because Greta Thunberg skipped school in 2018, “Fridays for Future” was born.
Success can’t be planned. But by doing nothing, you can ensure that nothing happens. Is that what we want.

Both. It’s a “yes, and.” On the one hand, and on the other. GENUG! works for everyone — and carries countless meanings. Discrimination has as many faces as there are societies and people. Each group, each region, each country organizes in a way that fits its own context. We learn from one another, we strike and celebrate, and we support each other as diversely as possible — without hierarchy The connecting forces are solidarity, resonance, and inspiration. And the shared goal: a better life for all who’ve had ENOUGH! of the bad.

The asterisk(*) after WOMEN and MEN acknowledges gender diversity to overcome  the construction of two genders/gender roles –  as one of the ENOUGH! issues .
We use the asterisk to make visible and address everyone affected by toxic masculinity.
