On October 24, 1975, a historic event took place in Iceland: the women’s strike against inequality. Ninety percent of all women stopped working. In this animated documentary by Pamela Hogan and Hrafnhildur Gunnarsdóttir, women tell their stories — many for the first time — about life in 1970s Iceland, their fight for equality, and the strike that changed everything.
The screening takes place in collaboration with ENOUGH! GENUG.
From Berlin, ENOUGH! aims to spark a global wave of protest and is calling for a GLOBAL WOMEN’S GENERAL STRIKE on March 9, 2026 — THE LARGEST, MOST DIVERSE, AND RESONANT ACTION by women, visible for all to see.
Regional, national, and globally connected movements are invited and encouraged to show their ENOUGH! — in their own languages, driven by their own experiences and political goals.
Ballhaus Naunynstraße joins this vision around the GLOBAL WOMEN’S GENERAL STRIKE and presents, among other works, A DAY WITHOUT WOMEN — the powerful story that has already inspired similar women’s strikes in Spain, Switzerland, and Poland in 2018. The film is released on the 50th anniversary of the original strike; it is both a documentary and a call to action, showing how the collective power of women transforms societies.
